So Much for a Post-Racial Presidency

“What are they thinking?”  That question rattled through my head while watching the President, the NAACP and Tom Vilsack all independently mess up a situation that now rises to the level of absurd.  Race continues to be an issue the Obama administration has been unable to tame, and it was one of his strongest talking points on the campaign trail.  Who would have thought that this silver-tongued politician would find himself in so much hot water on this issue!

I’m not convinced Shirley Sherrod is a racist (but the reaction from some NAACP conference goers in the same video makes me wonder about them), but I’m very convinced that her performance in this whole mess was less than stellar.  Doesn’t this all make you believe we REALLY don’t need a Department of Agriculture?

White House Off Base on AIDS Transmission

The White House is looking to remove the criminal offense attached to knowingly transmitting HIV/AIDS to unknowing victims.

The Secret Government Expanding Too

We all know the size of bureaucracy has been growing at an unprecedented rate, but the Washington Post recently revealed that the bureaucracy responsible for keeping U.S. citizens safe has exploded in size since 9-11-01.

Sure, we want to be secure, but do we really need over 1,200 government agencies working on counterterrorism efforts?  I would bet there are all kinds of overlap and redundancy with this kind of growth.

NAACP/Dems Plan Use of Race Card in 2010

The NAACP will consider a resolution which publically condemns the “explicitly racist behavior” of the Tea Party movement.  Buckle up because it’s going to get nastier.

A Chicago-Style Appointment for Berwick

It looks like Dr. Donald Berwick will end up running Medicare and Medicaid, being appointed while the Senate is recessing.  Despite the facts that this position has been vacant since 2006, the Senate is only out of session for two weeks, and members of the Senate are still awaiting for Dr. Berwick to provide responses to some inquiries, the president must think it’s critical not to wait and press forward.

Or, he could be worried that a confirmation hearing would re-hash all the awful things that Obamacare stands for.

Are You Better Off Now?

The Democratic Party is trying to dig up all kinds of dirt on GOP candidates across the country.  There is no surprise here, since the Party has become an extension of Chicago-style politics.  The GOP must keep their cool amid these political fishing expeditions and ask voters if they are better off now than two years ago.  Remember two years ago?  All that hope and change?  Where is it?

City Bans Drive-Ins for Citizens’ Health

The California city that invented the drive-through, is now banning all new construction of these kinds of restaurants.  Their reasoning?  The fight against obesity in adults and children and the unsightly lines of cars stretching around these restaurants.

Aren’t we tired of a government that thinks they know best?  Even at this local level, the city planners are taking the freedoms of the citizens away.  But who can blame them–they are simply getting inspiration from the federal government.

Steele Should Say Goodbye

Quite possibly the worst GOP Chairman of my lifetime, Michael Steele has become a sideshow for the Republican party.  He has significantly overstayed his welcome and should remove himself from politics.

The Party would be in much better hands under a new leader.    Both Sarah Palin and Jeb Bush would be good replacements.
