Onward

It appears that Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States, thus opening a socialist era of the American experience.  Goldwater/Reagan realizes how important it is to provide Americans with a place for small government conservatives, and we’ll pride ourselves on becoming THE place for preeminent small government conservative thought.

We’ll double our efforts to bring to you all the news, politics and commentary you need as we venture into a new, dark era of American government.  We strive to be your source for light in a dark time.

Besides Obama, we’ll expose Congress and their exploits.  We’ll remain vigilant while the Democrats toil away with your money.

Stay tuned…the best is yet to come.

Vote McCain

Goldwater/Reagan supports John McCain for President.  Barack Obama would bring the American bureaucracy  to new, bloated heights with higher taxes and more government programs than any other president in the history of the United States of America.

Please vote for John McCain–the alternative is frightening and untested.

A Reality Show Presidency

The Real World

Survivor

American Idol

Temptation Island

Who Wants to Marry A Millionaire?

Since the early part of this decade, America has enjoyed their reality tv.  I remember when Survivor first came on–I was glued to my tv set.  I wanted to see “real” people in unreal situations.  How would they act?  Who would back stab?  Who was gossiping?  I, like many Americans, enjoyed a somewhat guilty pleasure watching these shows and hoping that there would be something juicy said or done.  The great thing about reality shows is that it had nonprofessional actors, ORDINARY PEOPLE, in extraordinary situations.

The same could be said about a Barack Obama presidency.  Here is a man who was a state senator less than four years ago.  Since being elected to the United States Senate, he has done little.  He has no record to run on–so he’s running on charm and personality.  Certainly these characteristics won’t get you kicked off the island, but it takes more than this to be President.

I hope that the American public does not embrace the charm and glitz of this candidate but instead looks at the importance of electing a President who is not an amateur.  Reality tv is great for thirty or sixty minutes a day but Americans shouldn’t embrace a four-year reality show nightmare.

On Super Tuesday, Why Not Romney

Mitt Romney is not a small government conservative.

When looking at candidates who will be able to carry the mantle of Goldwater and Reagan, you can simply look over Mitt Romney.  Here’s a small smattering of reasons why:

Romney’s health care plan in Taxachusetts was more like socialized medicine, and is costing his state.

..it is hard to portray yourself as the ideological heir to Ronald Reagan when your health-care plan is virtually indistinguishable from the one proposed by Hillary Clinton.

On President Reagan and the 1980s:

“I was an independent during the time of Reagan/Bush.  I’m not trying to return to Reagan/Bush.” (in his own words at 2:32)

On affirmative action:

“There’s nothing we’re trying to eliminate. We’re only trying to build upon what’s been done in the past with a new, more effective effort in increasing the number and the percentage of people from all backgrounds and ethnic heritages in state government.”

On taxes:

…Romney increased annual state fees by $500 million as governor and proposed two corporate tax increases totaling close to $400 million a year.

On gun control:

Supported assault weapons ban and Brady bill.

Romney has flipped, flopped and flipped again.  The issues he’s gone back and forth on aren’t just small government issues (his stances on abortion and gay rights have gone back and forth).  How can small government conservatives believe that this candidate will support our values?  Based on past practice, I just can’t trust him to do that.

Ron Paul Leaving His Mark

Although he’s still a long shot to win the GOP nomination, Congressman Ron Paul’s limited-government stance is resonating with voters and even some parts of the media.  A clear change from the gimmicky “compassionate conservative” shtick of the current Administration, Paul’s message of limited government and lower taxes in order to get government spending under control makes most small government conservatives nod in agreement.  Although, I can’t agree with all of his stances (returning to the gold standard, the concept of a North American Union), he makes a lot of sense on the whole.

NRO on Huckabee

The National Review Online calls Huckabee the way we see him:

Unfortunately, what Huckabee offers by way of solutions is a mixture of populism and big-government liberalism; the common theme of his policies is that they are half-baked. If an ill-considered slogan can be used to justify a policy, he is for it. He is a protectionist, because we need to have “fair trade.” He wants to put illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship, because we need them “to do jobs that are going unfilled because nobody here wants to do them.” Energy subsidies and farm subsidies must be increased, because they’re a matter of “national security.”

The Huckabee pile on might be in full effect, but it’s warranted from a small government perspective.

Huckabee on Taxes (Hint: He likes them)

Hat tip to Arkansas Journal for this posting on Mike Huckabee.  In his own words:

GOP Presidential Contenders Talk about Overspending

The proof will be in the pudding, but this is at least a first step.

Will the Christian Conservative Movement Derail the GOP in ’08?

religion_17.gifIt looks like a group of conservative Christians are considering backing a third-party candidate if Rudy Giuliani is the 2008 GOP nominee.  Could this splinter the Republican Party?  Depending on who this mystery candidate is, we may be ushering in a Democrat in 2008.  Then we all lose.

Huckabee: Ban Smoking Nationwide

Here’s a big government conservative talking about how important it is that the federal government ban smoking in the greatest and freest country in the world.
